President Donald Trump said on Monday that he was considering firing Kimberly Guilfoyle, the US ambassador to Greece, following reports of improper and possibly illegal conduct, AP and CNN reported.

A senior official told AP on Sunday that Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were angry and would likely make a decision that week.

Since late September, the Wall Street Journal has reported allegations that Guilfoyle threatened a host-country official, accepted improper gifts and offered administration influence in return for payment of a large credit card bill. A former donor, Eric Deters, told CNN she asked him to wire $100,000 to clear an American Express bill before her confirmation; he says he did not send the money.

Her lawyers, David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall, say she did nothing wrong. The State Department declined to comment. According to a source cited by AP and CNN, its inspector general is looking into the allegations. Democratic Representatives Gregory Meeks and Robert Garcia and Senator Jeanne Shaheen have called for an investigation.

Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and California prosecutor, was previously married to Gavin Newsom and was once engaged to Donald Trump Jr.
